We have no idea why people would do this, but some people think it is clever of them to file a false identity theft claim. People notice that they could receive extra benefits from begin scammed so they tell bank and credit companies that their information was stolen and use illegally when in fact it was not. This means that they will have their money returned, which is just extra money (or stealing) from the banks or companies.

A lot of time these companies will let these fraud claims go because following up on them is too time consuming and not enough employees are on it. This means that people get away with fraudulent claims. This might sound like we are endorsing fraud and straying away from identity theft fighters, but it is very much the opposite.
